Emma’s Top 6 Holiday Makeup Essentials: Emma's Essentials

Emma’s Top 6 Holiday Makeup Essentials

Summer is a brilliant time to relax and unwind. Hopefully, you will get the chance to go on holiday this year and catch a little bit of sun! If you haven’t got your travel routine sorted yet, then read on for my makeup essentials whilst on holiday.

We all know the struggle of packing. You have to make substitutes for your usual beauty routines due to limited space in your travel case. Thankfully, our skin tends to be better when on holiday. This is likely a result of the sun, which provides our skin with the much-needed Vitamin D. A tan also means that we can tone down the amount of effort we put into our makeup routines. For example, when I go on holiday, I find myself ditching the foundation for concealer instead. I just use little dabs to cover up small blemishes.

Travel Makeup Bag

If like me, you have a fairly big collection of makeup at home, then it can be quite challenging when it comes time to narrow down your product selection to take abroad. The good news is that you should not need a full set of makeup whilst on holiday. The best products to bring are just the essentials.

I highly recommend using packing cubes when travelling. These are ideal for organising clothing and makeup. My preference is the Coolzon Packing Cubes. They help you to save space in your suitcase and also make packing ten times easier and more organised. I particularly like this brand of packing cubes as they are made of waterproof nylon fabric. This is perfect for storing. In the unfortunate event of makeup or lotions spilling during travel, the waterproof fabric will ensure they don’t leak onto other areas of your suitcase.

In addition, they are portable, easy to wash, moisture-proof and even dustproof! Having used these once, I rushed to buy another set! This is why I trust these packing cubes 100% to transport my makeup and skincare products.

Makeup Remover Wipes

To save on your liquid restrictions when travelling (max. 10 x 100ml liquids per traveller) I recommend packing these Neutrogena Hydro-Boost Cleansing Facial Wipes. They are super soft with a fresh cleansing lotion, which effortlessly glides over your face and eye area. I have tried and tested these wipes and can confidently say they are brilliant at removing makeup (even pesky waterproof mascara!) whilst also leaving your skin soft and hydrated.

I would recommend this brand of wipes over others when going abroad because of the moisture in them. I find that when I’m on holiday in the sun and swimming in the sea, my skin (especially on my face) gets dry and stingy quite quickly. Even when I keep my fluids up, my face just feels tight and rough. I didn’t have this problem when I used these wipes on holiday! Not only did they easily remove my makeup, but they also added a layer of soft moisturiser which helped keep my skin fresh and hydrated.

Concealer

As noted in my ‘Best Concealers Right Now’ blog post, I think Maybelline’s Eraser Eye concealer is the perfect travel size companion. It’s super easy to use, lightweight and has a smooth and natural finish.

Sponges

Whilst I’d love to take my many MANY makeup brushes on holiday with us… it’s just not practical! Instead, I take the Real Techniques Complexion Makeup Sponge with us. It’s super lightweight and takes up very little packing space, this beauty sponge is the perfect travel-friendly makeup tool. It can be used to apply foundation, or concealer, and to blend your contour.

When using it abroad, I recommend wetting the sponge first, so you can get that dewy glow look. It’s always best to apply in a dabbing motion. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, I don’t tend to use foundation when I’m on holiday. Instead, I apply concealer and use this beauty blender sponge to blend it onto my face. I find this process quick and easy, ideal for when I’m in a hotter climate.

Brows

A personal favourite of mine, the Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Gel is a makeup must when going on holiday. It’s a highly pigmented eyebrow gel which leaves my brows looking fuller and more defined. I particularly love that it’s the only brow product I need. This is especially useful when going on holiday since you should only pack the essentials.

For me, this brow product is essential. It’s waterproof and long-lasting – perfect for those beach days! Better yet, it comes in a travel size. I more often buy the travel size than I do the full version. Mainly because I find the smaller one lasts SO long. You wouldn’t think it looking at it, but this product truly gives you a run for your money. I would say that the smaller-sized gel lasts me about 6 months with daily use. So not only is this product a great investment for your holiday makeup kit, but it’s also perfect for day-to-day use when back home.

Mascara

The last makeup bag essential for when you’re on your travels is the Eyeko Black Magic Mascara (travel size). This mascara comes in a squeezable tube, which makes it even easier to fit into your makeup travel bag. It also has keratin and shea butter ingredients, leaving your lashes soft and conditioned. I find this is great whilst abroad as, as I said before, sometimes the sun and sea salt can be very harsh on your body. Using products which have in-built moisturisers is never a bad thing when visiting a hot country.

At only £9 on Amazon, and just 9 grams in weight, this mascara is the only one you’ll ever need when going on holiday.
