Mastering Foundation: Tips and Top Picks for All Skin Concerns

Hello again, beauty gurus! Today, I want to share a post dedicated to those who struggle with skin concerns. Having dealt with acne and blemishes for years, I’ve tried countless products to find what works best for me. I understand the challenges of choosing the right makeup when you’re unsure which products will work. Keep reading for the best foundation recommendations and application tips tailored to your skin concerns.

Blemish Prone Skin/Redness:

Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

This weightless foundation is a dream come true for acne prone skin, not only does this formula not break you out, but is light on the skin and also has a buildable medium to full coverage. Perfect if you like something a little light but have some areas that you need some more coverage. I’ve purchased many bottles of this foundation, and I can honestly say this foundation is absolutely perfect. If you love a radiant finish without looking too dewy, then you will love this product. This amazing formula also won’t separate on your skin, which can be a regular occurrence when you have blemish prone skin.

Loreal True Match Liquid Foundation

A more affordable option is the Loreal true match liquid foundation. This foundation has been trending for years, and rightfully so. I can remember OG youtubers such as Zoella back in the day loved this foundation. Still to this day this foundation is trending on Tik-Tok due to the amazing formula. This formula is infused with hyaluronic acid and SPF to ensure your skin is hydrated and protected. You know it can be trusted when the average rating is 4.5 stars with over 35,000 reviews. This is a staple foundation to have. This formula has a more natural, better than your skin, finish. So if you are looking for something a little more natural, this is the product to have.

IT Cosmetics CC+ full coverage cream

This product is an amazing choice for drier skin, this isn’t a foundation but a really hydrating colour correcting cream perfect for dry patches. This product is also a skincare hybrid product perfect for really nourishing your skin and healing throughout the day

Pro Application Tips:

Prep your skin- In order to have a smooth base, remember to follow a skincare routine and ensure you are moisturised. Remember if you are using a water-based foundation, your skincare must be water based also to avoid product separation. A water-based moisturiser I would recommend is ‘The Inkey List’s Hydrating Omega Water Cream’.

Then once you are all moisturised apply a water based gripping primer to keep your makeup look lasting all day. One I would recommend is the E.L.F Powergrip Primer. This primer is perfect for anyone who needs their makeup to last a long time. This formula is non-comedogenic, which means your pores will not be clogged. This also is skincare infused with hyaluronic acid to moisturise your skin whilst working it’s magic to keep your foundation in place.

Psoriasis/Dry Skin:

For drier skin or psoriasis, it is important that you use moisturising products with a sheer buildable coverage to ensure that product won’t cling to any dry patches. Not only is choosing the formula correct but also choosing the correct tools in order for your application to look as smooth as you can. Using clean beauty products is especially important as fragrances and chemicals can irritate your skin even further. It is also important to use cream of liquid foundations instead of powders to avoid any product build-up. Another tip is to find an oil-based foundation which will help add in that extra moisturising element into your makeup routine.

Second Skin Dewy Liquid Mineral Foundation- Sculpted By Aimee

https://amzn.to/3xuPf2J

This foundation is perfect for drier skin with a medium coverage and a mineral oil base this will glide over your dry patches to give you that perfect base. The shade range of these foundations are amazing with the choices of cool, warm, or neutral undertones.

Tip: If you are unsure about which undertone, you are, you can choose neutral to be on the safe side as they are in between.

This foundation again is a skincare hybrid containing hyaluronic acid for that extra moisturisation.

Application Tip: It is best to use a sponge applicator to apply your foundation as you can dampen your sponge to really smooth the product into your skin. Remember to use a patting motion rather than dragging as this can irritate the skin. Some recommendations for popular beauty sponges are of course:

The Original Beauty Blender

The original beauty blender has been a fan favourite for years due to the exclusive material which aims to absorb minimal product and also helps your makeup blend like a dream

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

This sponge is such a great alternative to the beauty blender and for everyone looking for a more affordable option for £5. Not only is this sponge popular within the beauty community but also helps blend your foundation like a dream, giving your makeup a smooth finish.

I hope this post has helped you gurus out, please let me know in the comments if you decided to try any of the recommended products out. I love to know what you guys think of the products and if they have worked well on your skin. As for now gurus, I’ll see you next week.
