The MakeupLabs Makeup Favourites

If you’ve been keeping up with our posts, you’ll know we’ve written many blog posts by now! We discuss everything from how-tos to beauty news. We now think it’s time to compile our favourite makeup products in the one post. So, without further ado, here are our MakeupLabs makeup favourites!

Table of Contents

It doesn’t matter if you’re a makeup newbie or a seasoned pro, we’ve all faced the decision on whether to buy the budget-friendly makeup or to splurge and go for the more expensive stuff. When faced with this choice, the question is, “is there really that big a difference between the cheaper and more pricey products?”

If you’re a casual makeup wearer, or on a tight budget, you might find splashing out on makeup isn’t a big priority for you. In this instance, it makes more sense to stick to low-cost, ‘drugstore’ brands. On the other hand, maybe you’re a frequent makeup wearer, or have more disposable income, and want to upgrade from a drugstore brand to a more expensive brand of a product you desire. But how can you tell if the difference is actually worth the additional money?

As mentioned in previous posts, we at MakeupLabs firmly believe that a product being more expensive does not automatically make it better than its lower-cost counterpart. For example, a lot of prestigious brands also own drugstore brands and sell similar products under both names. Often, the main difference between the makeup is not so much the product itself, but rather its packaging and marketing. However, we have purchased our fair share of cheap and expensive makeup and sometimes forking out the big bucks was worth it in the end. This leads us on to today’s blog post, when purchasing certain makeup products should you splurge or save?

Real Techniques Essential Brush Set

If you’re after a new set of makeup brushes, or maybe even your very first, then look no further than the Real Techniques Essential Brush Set. Perfect for everyday makeup, this set features 4 brushes and a beauty blender. This product receives the MakeupLabs stamp of approval because each brush is colour coded and has a name and number. This makes it super easy for beginners to know which brush to use for what. We also think it’s great value for money. Buying individual makeup brushes and sponges can result in a large bill. Therefore, we recommend opting for this set as it covers all the essential brushes whilst remaining budget friendly. And if there’s a brush that’s missing, you can easily buy it separately and add it to the set.

  • Contains 1 x blush brush, 1 x complexion sponge, 1 x crease brush, 1 x setting brush, and 1 x foundation brush.
  • Made out of ‘UltraPlush’ synthetic fibres. These are designed to be long-lasting, easy to clean, and cruelty-free.
  • Each brush is made out of aluminium, keeping them lightweight and easy to use. They are also colour coded for ease of use.
  • Real Techniques is the UK’s number one selling make-up brush brand.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation

Albeit expensive, this foundation is worth it. It was initially made for movie and tv stars, as it looks invisible on 4K camera quality and even the naked eye. This is why we especially like this foundation. As discussed in previous posts, foundation looks best when it’s natural. If you can hide blemishes and skin imperfections but look like you’re not wearing any coverage – then you’ve nailed it!

This product is rated 4.6 out of 5 stars on Amazon. It’s long-lasting and has a lightweight texture, so much so that it feels like a second skin. It is never cakey and doesn’t stick to drier areas of your skin.

  • It features uniquely-coated pigments which allow for nice buildable coverage.
  • Its ingredients include ‘hyaluronic spheres’, which are designed to moisturise the skin whilst concealing imperfections.
  • The foundation is fragrance-free.

Neutrogena Hydro-Boost Cleansing Facial Wipes

This might sound dramatic when describing a makeup remover product – but this was a game changer for us! We’ve all been tucked up in bed, exhausted, and ready to go to sleep when we get the dreaded realisation that we’ve not taken off our makeup yet. If we are being completely honest with you, there have been many times when we just slept in our makeup as we were too lazy to take it off! We know, we know… that is so bad for your skin. However, since purchasing the Neutrogena Hydro-Boost Cleansing Facial Wipes, there hasn’t been a day where we’ve not removed our makeup. There’s just something about these wipes that makes us want to take our makeup off.

Better than any removal wipes we’ve used before, this product just makes it so quick and easy! It also leaves our skin feeling amazon because it features a moisturiser. As a result, it’s actually become part of our skincare routine!

  • Instantly removes makeup – even waterproof mascara!
  • Gives your skin an instant boost of vital hydration thanks to its cleansing lotion.
  • Features a hydrating agent and hyaluronic acid which is found naturally in skin.

We have a set of these and oh my goodness, they are so soft to the touch.

It’s ultra-lightweight which gives an invisible finish on the skin. Better yet, it can actually be sprayed on top of your makeup!
